Our Story

One Learning Academy began the same way that virtually all ministries begin, by recognizing a need. As OneChurch began to grow, and specifically began to reach young families it became clear that there was growing discontent with the lack of Christian educational options in our community. So Church leadership began to pray and consider how we might step in the gap to meet that need. The only issue was that we didn't know how to start a school.

As it turns out, God had already begun to move the pieces before we had  even considered the need. As the church was beginning to contemplate how to start a school, two separate schools had already been established by qualified educators and parents. One of these schools was a full time micro school and the other was a hybrid homeschool. Each school was passionate about Christian education and just happened to be meeting the needs of families with a different approach. It also just so happened that both schools were in need of a home.

To make a  VERY long story short, in the span of about 12 months, God brought together OneChurch, and two schools, united in vision, to create a new school. Seeking to combine the best of what both schools brought to the table, OneLearning Academy has a Homeschool Enrichment track as well as a Full Time track. By offering both options, we are uniquely positioned to meet the needs of families in Derby and the surrounding communities. We hold to one simple truth: Education is Ministry. Our desire is to provide quality educational options with a heart of service so we can bless families as they attempt to raise their children as God as called them to. â€‹

Our Values

One Learning Academy is a unique K- 8th school using innovative learning methods. The class size is limited to a maximum of 15 students. This ensures that every student has their individual needs met. OLA is a 2 Track School comprised of a full time micro school and a homeschool enrichment program. While the two tracks have their differences, they also share several core principles:

1. Faith in God
We are an unapologetically Christian institution. While we are obviously focused on providing excellent educational opportunities, we are also dedicated to teaching our kids about a God who loves them. OLA is a ministry of OneChurch and our statement of beliefs can be found here.

2. Mastery Based Approach
Students have individual needs and are guided through the appropriate skills to build knowledge. This begins with fundamental reading and math skills. Students will present projects and portfolios to show their mastery learning. As they approach the level of excellence in each skill, students will show their work and it will be added to their portfolio for parents to see. Teachers will provide small group instruction alongside comprehensive, individualized technology programs and hands-on learning to help students succeed.

3. Multi-age Level Classrooms
Students learn to work with peers of all ages and encourage each other along the way. This key value promotes self advocacy, guiding students to take responsibility for their learning. This will help students leave our school with the ability to voice their needs in group situations and relationships with people of all ages and abilities.

4. Missions

The Bible says that the world will know we are disciples by our love for others. Missions is how we show that love. We will teach our kids to have a heart for others both through pursuing local and global opportunities to help and bless others.

5. Family Centered Learning
We believe that family involvement is essential to each child’s development and learning. We encourage parental involvement in our school with volunteer opportunities, the ability to volunteer alongside your children,

and to spend time in our facilities.
